The Island Corporation has a Sectoral Council of Traditional Clothing of Tenerife formed by experts who watch and advise on the proper use of this tradition
The Cabildo is committed to the citizenship of the Island, especially the child population, learn the correct use of the traditional dress of Tenerife. In the case of the youngest ones, the intention is that they know, from the school, what this clothing is like and how it is worn, considered one of the most valuable signs of identity on the Island.
With this objective, the Island Corporation, through the handicraft sector, created the Sectoral Council of the Traditional Clothing of Tenerife whose implementation and operating rules were approved by the Plenary Session of the Cabildo last summer of 2017. This Council is integrated by a group of experts and its mission is to advise and ensure the correct use of clothing.
The socioeconomic vice president of the Cabildo, Efraín Medina, is clear about it: "Dressing up with the heritage inherited from our island ancestors is not disguising oneself". Affirms that this action should be based on a solid leg such as education. "Our girls and boys have to know, from the first years of learning in school, the importance of dressing well our traditional and typical clothing because that means dressing our identity with respect and with rigor".
