This first installation phase will save up to 60% energy
The recently approved contract for Energy Service of the tourist city, in its first phase, and after 5 months of validity, has allowed to replace more than 2,000 luminaries of outdated technology by others of the latest generation of LED technology. This improvement will save up to 60% of energy compared to the existing system so far, which translates radically into the CO2 footprint of the municipality.
In this first phase, in addition to having begun with the improvement in security in the battered lighting network of public spaces, will act on 1,400 more points, which will be installed led luminaires with different characteristics to those already installed, to which will be added the adjustment of intensity regulators of the remaining points of light not subject to substitution.
For the mayor of Porto, Lope Afonso, the new luminaires already installed give "a uniform aspect to the municipality and represent a substantial improvement of the public space of Porto, while consolidating our commitment to the sustainability of public services." The president recalled that when this important change for the city began "many raised doubts about the outcome of the energy improvement project, among which was not the government team, which the development of the contract is giving reason," he stressed .
